Through journalism school, I traveled to visit the top media organizations in New York City and practice multimedia storytelling in France!

I’m Gabrielle Lopez, writer and storyteller.

My curiosity led me to study journalism and sociology at the University of Oregon. I have since developed skills in reporting, writing, and editing to share stories about society for society. I knew I wanted to return to my hometown to support local newsrooms.

Thanks to UO, I had amazing media-related experiences. I mentored Latino youth through a student-run magazine: Inspirar; visited the nation’s top newsrooms in New York City, and studied food media in France.

I returned home to El Paso, TX, where I am writing my undergraduate thesis on local news consumption habits. I am also producing for ABC-7 (KVIA-TV). I am lucky to say I am working in my passion in local news.
